“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”… Gandhi
These words have so much meaning and inspires me to want change, it makes me realize that I have to do more than talk about the issues. I have to help implement the changes that I want to see in the world starting with myself. We all see things in the world that we don’t like, but we must look within ourselves for a solution and create a shift toward positive behaviors. If we step back and take a look at the world around us, we will see many serious issues, including environmental degradation, war, injustice, poverty and overpopulation. It’s easy to become angry and outraged or even passive because of the normality of it all but none of those responses are effective in bringing change and are also a huge part of the problem.
It has been proven throughout history that there is power within in numbers. There is nothing wrong with posting information on social media about an event or cause that you feel strongly about. It’s even commendable to use such a large platform to draw attention to the cause, but we have to ask ourselves what we can do to put action behind our words. After a lot of thought I feel that the best way for me to be part of the change is through education, using my voice, reaching out, connecting with those who support social justice and using my abilities to help bring change.
