The New Belgium brewing company opened its doors in 1991 as a home-based venture, started by Jeff Lebesch and Kim Jordan (Kensington Wine Market, 2014). Since then, New Belgium has become one of the largest craft brewers in the United States, currently fourth largest in the country (Brewers Association, 2017). The company has grown with a focus on sustainability by using renewable energies as well as finding innovative ways to re-use the waste that they create. New Belgium’s mission statement is, “to manifest our love and talent by crafting our customers’ favorite brands and proving business can be a force for good” (New Belgium Brewing Company, 2017). This company wide mandate has created an atmosphere to be the best at what they do, while also being an innovator for change and social consciousness. This paper will explore some of the key ways in which New Belgium is able to meet their goals and surpass them, all while being profitable and eco-conscious.
