Macbeth, despite the influences of witches and his wife Lady Macbeth, is responsible for his fall. In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, Macbeth is a tragic hero who destroys himself by his own evil and self absorbed ambitions. Beginning the play Macbeth is shown as a courageous, noble war hero of scotland who has just gained victory in the war. Macbeth soon becomes corrupted and is willing to slaughter and kill anyone who becomes threatening to his kingdom.
Macbeth proves himself a hero by his bravery and courage. He is praised by his captain telling of his bravery and brutality toward Scotland’s enemies as “He unseamed him from the nave to th’ chops”. This is recognized by the king Duncan who rewards him well. Later throughout the play Macbeth leads on to murder the king himself. Although these actions were both influenced by his Wife and the evil trio of witches his deep desires to become king motivates and fuels these actions.

Macbeth is Influenced by the three “weird sisters” who prophecize that he will be king, “All hail Macbeth hail to thee, Thane of Glamis! All hail Macbeth hail to thee Thane of Cawdor, All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter”. Macbeth is blinded by these prophecies and believes it without any proof. He will not dismiss these words of the witches how Banqou did, but instead of he chooses to believe in those misinterpreted predictions. With the predictions from the witches being responsible for Macbeth’s onslaught is does not suggest the murder of the king. This idea to commit murder and treachery has notified Banqou “Good sir, why do you start, and seem to fear things that do sound so fair?”
Macbeth’s “black and deep desires” terrify him and he refuses to openly speak about it. He sends a letter to his beloved wife explaining the situation at hand. Lady Macbeth, encourages murder as it is the only way to reach their ambitions. Macbeth allows this manipulation from his wife as she accuses him of not being a ‘man’ and expresses that she would kill her own baby just to fufill her desires, “I have given suck, and know how tender ’tis to love the babe that milks me: I would, while it was smiling in my face, have pluck’d my nipple from his boneless gums, and dash’d the brains out, had i so sworn as you have done to this”. Macbeth being strong both mentally and physically, doesn’t stop to his plan of murder while his conscience warns him of downfall in the horizon. Instead of listening to his conscience he puts his guilt to the side and continues with his ambition. Even his mind, Brain washed by the thoughts of evil and murder lead him to the king’s bedroom. “Is this dagger which i see before me, the handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee. I have thee not, and yet I see thee still”.
Macbeth is greatly influenced by the three weird sisters and his wife Lady Macbeth. However with them impacting his decisions he is ultimately for blame and responsible for his own actions. He denies to listen to his gut/ conscience which repeatedly reminds him to consider the other path which isn’t slowly leading him to destruction.
