Communication represents one of the most important characteristics of working in the healthcare sector. There are many reasons why people communicate.
We mainly communicate by;
? Building relationships – People build relationships by some form of communication, this might be done with a smile, wave, or by shaking hands. This is the first form of communication, which helps to begin to build a relationship with many different people in the healthcare sector and the individual being cared for.
? Maintaining relationships – By keep building relationships with adults you begin to create a trusting relationship with them and other people in the healthcare sector, which helps them gain and share information with the carer and the individual being cared for.
? Expressing needs and feelings – As human beings we express our needs and feelings through our behavior and speech, majority of people need to share their needs and feelings with others and by doing this we build up a sense of trust in the person we confide in, so the individual that confides to their carer or someone in the healthcare sector can really trust them as they chose to express their needs and feelings to that person.
