How Evidence-Based Practice Is Applied In Your Practice Setting
Most of the healthcare departments have incorporated the use of evidence-based practice in the delivery of healthcare services to achieve their desired goals and objectives. These include having increased positive patient outcomes through the delivery of quality healthcare services (Friberg & Creasia, 2015). Evidence-based practice is the use of scientific research evidence, which has been proved to produce the best results. In a healthcare setting, evidence-based practice is used to increase the quality, safety, and effectiveness of healthcare practices. This practice is also used in the policy-making process (Friberg & Creasia, 2015). In the maternity department, which is my area of practice, evidence-based practice has helped healthcare professionals in this department to better manage pregnant women and improve the delivery process reducing the numbers of infant deaths (Tiran, 2018).
The maternity department focuses on the safe delivery of children. The process of childbirth is a process, which has continued to change with new ways coming up to ensure the safety of the mother as well as the unborn baby (Tiran, 2018). Evidence-based practice has continued to provide better ways to protect the unborn baby from any disease, which might be passed on to the child by the mother and better ways of child delivery, which are safe to the mother. These methods include measures on how to address emergencies during the childbirth process (Tiran, 2018).
Desired Patient Outcome Achieved Through This Approach
The use of evidence-based practice in the maternity department has enabled the department to improve the childbirth process, which has enabled most mothers to deliver safely and regain their normal health quickly (Curl & Lothian, 2013). The practice has also reduced the number of infant deaths as well as mothers who lose their lives during the process. This has enabled the life of the mother as well as the child to be protected from any harm, which is one of the healthcare goals (Curl & Lothian, 2013). Health care facilities have the responsibility of ensuring that lives are protected and pregnant mothers deliver their children safely which have been facilitated by the use of evidence-based practice in this department. This has improved patient outcomes, which is a goal of every patient who visits a healthcare facility (Curl & Lothian, 2013).
