Touch football is a large fitness orientated sport; this term we have been studying the health and skill related components to play one of the three positions in touch. In a singular game of touch, you use your three main energy systems, which are the (ATP-PC), lactic acid and the aerobic system. The purpose of this report is to see which position on the touch field I would suit most.
Pre – Analysis:
Evaluation of the components of fitness and an Analysis to their relevance of Touch Football. Touch football is a type of football in which the ball carrier is downed by the touch instead of a tackle. In the game of touch football, many different fitness components relate to specific touch positions. This essay will evaluate the components of fitness and analyse their relevance to touch football. To complete this, a training program was given out for us to follow for six weeks. There are three different positions in touch these are Middle, Link and wing. The middles are positioned in the centre of the field between the two links. These players must be fit with excellent communication and ball skills; they also make the opportunities for the outside players. The next position is link, Links are positioned between the middle players as well as the wingers. The links are the most agile runners with the best ball handling skills. Links have good anticipation, acceleration and evasive skills (stepping). The last position is the wing; the wingers are positioned on each side of the field, outside the link near the sideline. Wingers are expected to be the fastest players on the team, playing wing normally has a very low workload when it comes to a game of touch. Fitness has many meanings and therefore is broken down into two categories, health and skill. Health related fitness components include aerobic capacity, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition, Skill related fitness components are muscular power, speed, agility, balance and coordination. The position that I will be best suited for is wing. A series of tests were conducted such as a 35m sprint test, endurance and weight tests, for the 35m sprint test I achieved a time of 3.59 seconds meaning I am pretty quick.
2 Key deficiencies Training Program
This program was given to us to follow for six weeks. During these six weeks, I found two major errors in this training program. These two major errors were the 6x100m easy pace (60-75% intensity, 1:3 work: rest ratio) as well as the 9x100m (95% intensity, 1:5 work: rest ratio). First of all a touch field is only 70 metres long so there is no need to jog 30 metres more if a touch field is only 70 metres long. This type of training is called anaerobic conditioning; anaerobic conditioning is used to promote strength, speed and power. The training that involves 9x100m (95% intensity, 1:5 work: rest ratio) is called super sprint training which is used to train long endurance sports such as triathlons, these two trainings both use the Aerobic and Lactic acid energy systems.
My Training Program
The training program that was given to us to follow for six weeks was not up to standard for a touch footballers training sessions. For my training program that I have modified I would cut out the two deficiencies that I made clear in the program that was given to us and swap that out for group fartlek sprints as well as ball work. Group fartlek training consists of the team sprinting for 30 seconds and 100 % then jogging for a minute then sprinting for 30 seconds at 100%, the team must do this for 10 minutes. This component of the training program will help the players in the team get faster and fitter; this drill will use the ATP-PC throughout the 10 minutes. The second deficiency that I raised will be replaced with ball handling skills that involve offside touch, this is where team members are split up into two teams and members of each team get to be offside in order to get as many tries in 5 minutes. Whichever team loses has to complete 5x50m sprints, these skills will involve the ATP-PC, aerobic and Lactic Acid systems because players are continuously running for a period of 5 minutes meaning that lactic acid will start to build up while the team are running the 5x50m sprints.
I have the appropriate skills and abilities for an overall demanding position. A wing is said to have good speed and evasive skills, and I believe I have these factors. At the conclusion of this report it is seen that my strongest touch football position would be wing. A series of tests on different components were conducted, showing their connection with to touch football. This report evaluated the effectiveness of training programs in the sport of touch football. Based on the results such as having good speed explains why I should be a wing instead of a middle or link.
