Texas failed at being a spanish colony becasue the spanish came to texas first and saw the texas coast, but the Spanish had about 302 years to try to colonize Texas and settle in but didn’t accomplish. The reasons why they didnt accomplish was because Spanish didnt plan for these reasons they had very poor use of geography, missions and hostile Native americans. Most of the population of texas was scared of the French settlement there that they were moving to other colonies.
Their boats that were supposed to be there to see the land and check it out but got shipwrecked. The only people that survived were 4 out of 270 men and, one of them was Cabeza De Vaca. Cabeza De Vaca was the first Spaniard to live on our land.Like, every explorer he had a goal that was to settle Texas and be friends with the Native americas. Another reason why Texas failed as a colony was distance. The distance from Mexico city and san antonio were 700 miles . Also, san antonio to santa fe was 700 miles. The distance for trading goods, reduced profit by the france that wanted fur and wine, reduced consumer spending, and discouraged new settlers from moving in. The trding goods were hard to get to because they came from other places and the train was slow or they had to come this way.
The second reason for slow colonzation was weak missions.
