Uncle Tom
Uncle Tom is a good,feeling,helpful, and nice man. He kind of broke the slave stereotype which says that slaves aren’t people and don’t have feelings. This shocked people that had completely believed the stereotype. It made them think differently. This is why the book was like a social protest and cause a lot of unrest.
Eliza And Harry
Eliza Shows her love and feelings towards her child when she takes her child, Harry and runs north to get away from them getting sold. Eliza is smart and brave but still is scared this also shows the slave’s feelings. She crosses the ohio river on patches of ice to save her child from harsh slavery. Harry is Eliza’s son which is who she runs away from slavery for and protects him from slavery.
George
George is Eliza’s husband and is courageous and smart which again broke the stereotype. To protect his family he killed a slave hunter when the hunter tries to take his family, which is what anyone would do when put in that situation.
Mr.Shelby
Mr. Shelby or Arthur Shelby was a slave owner in kentucky who owned uncle tom, Eliza and Harry he is a good slave owner he cares for the slaves but when he goes deep into debt and to pay it off he has to give up 2 of his slaves which end up being uncle tom and harry so that is why Eliza takes harry and leaves. Mr. Shelby breaks the stereotype of a mean slave owner, he didn’t even want to give them away.
Simon Legree
Simon Legree was a cruel and evil slave owner who didn’t care for the slaves at all. He owned the Louisiana plantation, he fosters violence and hatred between his slaves. But he still is sad about the death of his mom.
Legree wants to break tom’s faith and this shows that he did not believe and hated tom. He shows the stereotype of slave owners in the mid 1800s.
Social Protest
It was a social protest because it said and showed what people didn’t wanna see or hear it caused a lot of anger and sympathy in the US. It showed things like the slave’s feelings that most people didn’t believe and didn’t wanna believe at that.
