This essay discusses two significant ethical theories

This essay discusses two significant ethical theories, analysing each theories approach to a moral standard, whilst relating the theories to a case study on whether it is right to lie to murderers. It will look at the positives and negatives of utilitarianism and deontology as well as their differences and similarities in principals creating a comparison of the two ethical approaches.

Utilitarianism as known as consequentialism developed by Jeremy Bentham is a theory about the greater good and maximizing pleasure to outweigh the pain, this is based on the uses of prediction to assess the right action to use in a situation by thinking about its possible consequences the action may lead too; not taking into account morals or influences behind a decision as long as a majority gain pleasure from this.
