Nurses usually work eight hour shifts and it has become a commonly used of shift rotation in widely held of hospitals in Middle East Countries and some Asian Countries. When compared, to twelve hours as followed in western countries there are several benefits and difficulties for the patients and also for the nurses on both eight hours and twelve hour shift policies. Nursing itself is a strained occupation. Just before the end of a long hour shift nurses can be bodily and psychologically drained and less attentive. Long hour shifts increases the stress level and causes burnout, fatigue, and it can also affect patient safety.
