LEADERSHIP OF TUN DR. MAHATHIR MOHAMAD
Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said that “To be a good leader, one needs to have good strategies, be knowledgeable and able to predict the future”. After becoming a prime minister of malaysia in 1981, he has changed a lot of policies and economic strategies, which that reflected positively on Malaysian economic. He was known as the father of modernization because of the changes of economic in Malaysia from a poor agriculture country to a very rich industrial modern country and also make Malaysian known to all over the world.
Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad was born in Alor Setar , Kedah on 20 December 1925. He was a youngest of nine children. His father Mohamad bin Iskandar was a half Indian while his mother Wan Tampawan was Malay. His family come from very modest background, he was not born into the aristocracy or a prominent religious or political family. Mahathir also a very hardworking student. He started out his primary education at the Seberang Perak Malay Boys School closed during World War II, he went into business first selling coffee and later Pisang Goreng (fried banana) and other snack. After the war, he graduated from secondary school by completing Senior Cambridge exams in December 1946 and study medicine at the King Edrward VII College of Medicine in Singapore. Than he return to Alor Setar to set up his own practise and become successful as he the only Malay doctor in the town. Currently, he is a Malaysian Politician that serving as the prime ministry of Malaysia for the second time. He is the chairman of Pakatan Harapan coalition, as well s a member of parliament of Malaysia for the langkawi constituency in Kedah. He previously served as Prime Ministry from 1981 to 2003, making him the office’s longest-serving holder. In political career, he has spanned more than 70 years since he first joined a newly formed United Malays National Organizational (UMNO) in 1946 and in 2016 he formed his own party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Malaysian United Indigenous Party).
I found that tun dr. Mahathir is a great leader because he has a good characteristic of leadership whereby his personality and character has inspired many people to achieve their goals. As we can see that his leadership successes by achievement of the country and also it can be seen by the high level of income and living standard in Malaysia. He was making Malaysia economy grew strongly and the name of country outshine internationally. Under leadership of Tun Dr. Mahathir, the aim, mission, vission, and country development was successfully carried out continuously.
